The Vernon Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting its Trails Day event on Saturday at Valley Falls Park.
This year's theme will be orienteering.
Orienteering requires navigational skills - using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and the event is normally moving at speed.
Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points.
The event, open to all ages, is part of the Mayor's Cup Challenge and is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
The meeting point is the pavilion, 300 Valley Falls Rd.
Participants are asked to bring a compass or downloaded compass app on a smart phone with them. There will be a limited amount of compasses at the event.
