Teddy Bears and Fund-Raisers ...

The mayor will review the Alfred response.

Boy was it crowded in the main office at Rockville High School at about noon on Friday.

There was barely a seat.

No, it wasn't students getting ion trouble, it was a horde of stuffed bears, courtesy of the faculty and staff, collected for the Cornerstone shelter. 

As of about 12:30, 130 of the stuffed animals had accumulated in the office. They were to be delivered at about 2 p.m.



Last Saturday's Arctic Splash event at Valley Falls Park raised about $2,000 for the Send a Kid to Camp program and the Hockanum Valley Community Council, Mayor George Apel reported this week.



On Dec. 14, Mayor George Apel and Emergency Management Director Michael Purcaro will conduct what Apel termed an "after-action" review of how the town handled winter storm Alfred.

At Tuesday's Town Council meeting, Apel called for a round of applause for firemen, police officers, public works employees and municipal staff members frothier efforts during and aft the storm.



U.S. Rep. Joseph Courtney was given the Legislator of the Year Award by the American College of Physicians, Connecticut Chapter.  

Courtney has been appointed to the conference committee for the FY12 National Defense Authorization Act, which sets the federal budget for the Department of Defense for the next fiscal year. The bill authorizes billions of dollars of investments for "key defense priorities for eastern Connecticut and the state," Courtney said.

Courtney resides in Vernon.

On Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., R House Restaurant ill be donating 20 percent of all profits to Cpl. Greg Caron and his family. Caron, a marine, lost both legs while serving in the Middle East.
