Scouts Collecting Food on Saturday

Collections should take place from 9 a.m. to noon.

Saturday is food collection day for local Scouts.

Last Saturday, many Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts placed bags at the doorstep of 4,900 houses around Vernon.

This Saturday, Nov. 2, they will come back to each house and look for a bag of food left on doorsteps.

The food collection will start at 9 a.m, so residents should leave the bags out by that time.

All collections are expected to be complete by noon.

All the food will be sorted and brought to the Hockanum Valley Community Council's food pantry.

Food is needed all year round, but pantry officials have said they see more people in need coming into the holiday season.

Donations can also be made directly to the pantry at 29 Naek Rd.

HVCC can be reached at 860-872-7727.

Last year the scouts collected more than 10,000 pounds of food.
