Scouts to Embark on Annual Food Drive

The drive benefits the HVCC pantry.

It's time again for the local edition of the "Scouting for Food” drive.

Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in Vernon will be dropping off collection bags at thousands of houses on Oct. 26 for the annual food collection effort.

Scouts are asking residents to leave food items in the bag on their doorsteps the following Saturday - Nov 2 - for pickup.

The food collection is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 2.

All food collected will be donated to the Hockanum Valley Community Council’s food pantry.

Food is needed all year round, but HVCC officials have said the pantry has more need around holiday seasons. Anyone unable to leave food out on Nov. 2 can make a donation directly to HVCC. The pantry is located at 29 Naek Rd. For donation information, call 872-7727.

Last year, the Scouts collected more than 10,000 pounds of food.
