Residents Ready to Cruise into the Rockville Fest

Event on tap for Set. 24.

Pam DiDio, the communications chairwoman for the Rockville Fest, says there is a telltale sign that signals the beginning of the annual event.

It's starts at about 9:30 in the morning, she says  - the rumbling of antique and vintage cars heard on the main drag in Rockville. That's when the Tri-Town Cruzers start lining up around Central Park.  The cars will eventually be parked around Central Park, surrounding the crafters and vendors who will be on the grass, she says.

The festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 25th from 11 a.m. to 4p.m.

In addition to the Cruzers, the event will feature music and  entertainment, a bounce house, a variety of food (including a fresh fruit and veggie booth), crafters and vendors.

Many of the downtown merchants will be open for business and may have specials to offer for the event.

The Cruzers will conduct their annual raffle to raise money for the Matthew Gauruder Scholarship Fund. A scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior from Rockville High School.

Back by special demand this year is the Victorian Walk, led by Rockville Downtown Association member, Bob Hurd. This walk will take approximately 90 minutes and will include discussion on various types of Victorian architecture, the histories of some of the Rockville Victorian homes, and facts about people who lived in them.

Anyone interested should meet promptly at 1 in front of the Rockville Downtown Association office on Park Place.

Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen, Nicole Nemense, is scheduled to appear at about 1:30. She will meet with parents and girls who would like to know more about the pageant process and what her duties are.  She will also be helping to hand out the trophies for the winning cars.
