Rec Officials: Take a Chilly Dip for Summer Camp

It's time for the annual Arctic Splash.

All it takes is a short plunge in the pond at Valley Falls Park to help send a local young person to summer camp.

On Dec. 7.

It's all part of the Vernon Parks and Recreation Department's annual Arctic Splash. The plunge is slated for 1 p.m.

The rain date is Dec. 8.

There is no snow date mentioned.

Every summer the Vernon Parks and Recreation Department gives out an average of $25,000 in fee reductions and full-week scholarships to children and families in town to send their children to summer camp.

Many of the children would not have the chance otherwise, recreation officials said. A $75 donation will send one child to summer camp for a full week.

Here are the top sponsors so far and how many campers will be aided by threat contributions:

• Rockville Dunkin Donuts - four campers.
• Olender's Body Shop - three-and-a-half campers.
• Catsup and Mustard - three campers.
• CNC Software - three campers.
• Cummings, Lanza and Purnhagen - two campers.
• LearnToProgram.tv Inc. - one-and-a-half campers.

Individuals can also take the plunge.

For both individual and corporate sponsorship information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 860-870-3520.
