RCA Asking Donors to Commode on Down to National Night Out

Donations are being sought for the portable facilities.

Thomas DiDio has a potty mouth this week.

It has been part of an appeal by the Rockville Community Alliance for donations to offset the cost of portable toilets for National Night Out and Rockville Fest.

Aug. 6 will mark the 30th anniversary of National Night Out. The event was created by law enforcement and community groups around the nation to stage a crime-free, safe evening of fun and entertainment in neighborhoods. This year's local version is slated for Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Downtown Rockville.

DiDio, a Town Council member and the RCA's participation chairman, attempted to get an appeal for $2,000 in municipal funds added to Tuesday's Town Council agenda, but it did not get the two-thirds vote necessary. The amount represented $500 and $1,500 for portable toilet rentals at national Night Out and Rockville Fest, respectively, two major events sponsored by the RCA.

About 2,000 people attend National Night Out and more than that come to the Rockville Fest. The town's subsidization was eliminated in budget cuts.
DiDio on Wednesday said the RCA would at least like to offset the cost of the rentals for National Night Out.

DiDio said interested donors can contact him at 860-646-5320 or at thomas.didio@snet.net. He said donations can be sent to The Rockville Community Alliance, Potty Fund, PO Box 45, Vernon, CT 06066.

The RCA is willing to place a sign near the portable toilets to acknowledge  the donations, he said.
