Plenty of Snow Up North

A look at some of the great snow sports schools.

This week, Vernon Patch is taking a different approach to the Grab & Go Kids Planner.

There is still plenty of snow up north, so here is a look at five great snow sports schools at places that still have a deep base.

1. Catamount, Massachusetts: With two magic carpets and a lift that drops youngsters off midway up the mountain, there are plenty of options in the Snow Cats program. The kids lodge is spacious and the instructors have a knack of making it fun. Check it out at www.catamountski.com.

2. Ski Sundown, Connecticut: Sundown is hanging in there and even had fresh snow a couple of days ago. The lodge is kid-friendly, the mountain is kid-friendly, the equipment is kid-friendly and so is the staff. Check it out at www.skisundown.com.

3. Okemo Mountain Resort, Vermont: Okemo has distinct programs for distinct age and ability groups spread out all over the resort. And mom can even sneak away with one of the top-flight women instructors to hone her skills. There are several lodging options and plenty of apres-ski activities for the family.  Check it out at www.okemo.com.

4. Wachusett Mountain, Massachusetts: What can you say about a sleigh ride to and from the learning areas - for the kids not the adults. That sets the stage for a fun  learning environment in the Polar Kids program. Check it out at www.wachusett.com.

5. Smugglers' Notch, Vermont: Smuggs is renowned for its family offerings and the snow sports school is right up there. After a few runs, so e of the most spacious condos and one of the greets kiddie pools of all time await.  Check it out at www.smuggs.com.
