Officials: Vernon Escapes Round 2 of High Winds

Vernon has escaped the last two storms with very little damage.

Two storms in about a week's time …

Those types of weather maps can make emergency management folks in Vernon a little edgy.

Alas, they produced a lot of wind, very little damage in town and left officials with barely enough hot air to talk about anything.

The latest weather system blew in - literally - overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday and it featured a lot of rain and gusts of up to 50 mph. More was possible in the afternoon.

The lone incident was a tripped breaker at Center Road School on Wednesday morning and the cause of that is still under investigation, emergency officials said. It was called in by a custodian at about 6 a.m., emergency officials said.

About 15 classrooms were affected, but power was restored before students reported, emergency officials said. There was a water issue in one part of the school, but student traffic was diverted temporarily and no classroom time was lost.

Just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. police were alerted to a possible missing woman with a medical condition on Hillside Avenue. A search team was organized in case the incident dragged into the weather event, but she was found a short time later, police said.
