Movement for NNO Portable Toilet Subsidies Reaches No. 1 and No. 2 - Donations That Is

Donations to offset the costs are still being sought.

The efforts to subsidize the portable toilets for National Night Out has become a two-ply effort whose rolls have stretched across political aisles.

The costs associated with renting the portable toilets became a going concern for the Rockville Community Alliance when budget cuts left the Permanent Celebration slate wiped clean by budget cuts. The account, which now has zero dollars in it, was used for events like National Night Out.

Thomas DiDio, a Town Council member and the RCA's participation chairman, attempted to flush out some help with an appeal for $2,000 in municipal funds. He requested the matter be added to Tuesday's Town Council agenda, but it did not get the two-thirds vote necessary. The amount represented $500 and $1,500 for portable toilet rentals at National Night Out and Rockville Fest, respectively, two major events sponsored by the RCA.

About 2,000 people attend National Night Out and more than that come to the Rockville Fest. DiDio on Wednesday said the RCA would at least like to offset the cost of the rentals for National Night Out.

Almost as soon as he said that, both the local Democratic and Republican parties made pledges. DiDio did not divulge the amounts.

DiDio said interested donors can contact him at 860-646-5320 or at thomas.didio@snet.net. He said donations can be sent to The Rockville Community Alliance, Potty Fund, PO Box 45, Vernon, CT 06066.
The RCA is willing to place a sign near the portable toilets to acknowledge  the donations, he said.
