Mayor to Vernon: Do a Good Deed in Honor of Newtown

He issued the challenge at Tuesday's council meeting.

Mayor George Apel called the Town Council meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

At 7:31, he offered a moment of silence for the victims of the Newtown shootings.

At 7:32, he issued a charge to all residents.

"I challenge everyone to do a good deed this week in memory of those who lost a child in Newtown," the Mayor said.

On Sunday, Apel made a similar challenge at a vigil in honor of the Newtown Victims when he asked the more that 500 in attendance to turn to someone they did not come with an offer a greeting.
