Letter: School Board Chairman Thanks the Voters

He responds to the passage of a budget.

To the editor,

I want to thank the Vernon voters for passing the 2013/14 budget!

I want to especially thank all of the parents, teachers, and students who rallied, made signs and lobbied to get money added back to the Board of Education budget.

I also want to thank Mr. DiDio for having the courage to make the motion to add the million dollars back to the education budget. I appreciate the fact that you and Mr. Winkler were vocal supporters of the Board of Educations proposed budget from the very beginning of your budget process.

Advocating and doing the right things for education is the responsibility of the Board of Education, but we cannot do it without Council supporting our budget request. I DO NOT believe Mr. DiDio politicized the process as the Republican Town Committee Chair Hal Cummings stated in his letter to the editor. The education budget was passed on a bipartisan vote and the Republicans had the majority on the Board, prior to me changing my affiliation to non-affiliated. The Board clearly indicated where the monies were being allocated.

Again, thank you parents. You truly proved this year that parental involvement can have a positive impact on kids education!

Dean A. Houle
Chairperson – Board of Education
