Letter: DiDio - "We must Now do our Part and Vote in Favor of the Budget"

A letter from the Democratic Council member.

To the Editor:

I am extremely pleased that the council was able to pass a $1 million increase to the BoE budget at its Tuesday budget hearing. The hard work by all concerned about improving our schools is paying off. Parents, students, and townspeople voiced overwhelming support for Vernon schools at a rally before Tuesday’s hearing, and in 45 minutes of Citizens Forum testimony.

We absolutely must now do our part and vote in favor of the budget.
The restored budget faces the voters in a third referendum vote on Tuesday June 4.

Once the budget passes, the BoE will be able to restore the drastic cuts to programs that directly affect our children. This is a major step toward raising the standards of education in Vernon so all of our children can achieve the knowledge that they will need to be productive adults.

Budget voting will be held Tuesday, June 4, from 6 am to 8 pm at Center 375 on Route 30. Voters who will be out of town for the vote can cast an absentee ballot at the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall.

Vernon Town Council member
Democratic mayoral candidate
