June 11, 2011: Time to Make the Doughnuts

New Dunkin' the latest shuffle in the busy deck at Lafayette.

Grand opening activities have been scheduled for this morning between 10 and 12 at the new Dunkin' Donuts in the Lafayatte Plaza on Route 30, known locally as 30 Hyde Ave.

Mayor Jason McCoy is scheduled to be on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11.

The new Dunkin' Donuts is an expansion by the Pacheco Family, which currently owns four Dunkin' Donuts throughout town.

Here are five tidbits about an active business scene at Lafayette:

1. There once was a bank, a McDonald's a doughnut shop, a Chinese place, a Subway and a diner.

2. Then there was a Burger King around the corner and McDonald's left the plaza and joined Burger King near the Interstate-84 interchange.

3. The diner changed hands. Subway and the Chinese place were the mainstays and quietly took care of business.

4. Then, the doughnut shop closed down and a wild winter forced the bank to close for safety reasons.

5. Now, the McDonald's is a doughnut shop and the doughnut shop is a bank, but the bank will move back to its original location once a new building is constructed.
