HVCC Food Pantry Hoping Letter Carrier Food Drive Builds up Summer Supplies

The food drive is Saturday.

Heidi Bearse of the Hockanum Valley Community Council put it plainly on Tuesday.

Summer is on the way, and that means with children at home, there is usually more demand for food at the HVCC's food pantry.

So pantry officials are hoping Saturday's 20th-annual National Food Drive to Stamp Out Hunger by letter carriers can help build up warm weather inventory.

The letter carriers said it is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations left at resident's mailboxes on Saturday. The carriers will also collect at the local post offices for delivery to HVCC.

"Please help by placing your food donations near your mailbox on Saturday, before your carrier arrives," Bearse said.
