Emergency for Hunger Food Drive Ready to Collect

The drive involves emergency and public service agencies in five communities who band together with Rotary Clubs to collect items for local food banks.

The fifth-annual Emergency of Hunger Food Drive is about to get under way. 

The drive involves emergency and public service agencies in five communities who band together with Rotary Clubs to collect items for local food banks.
 
In its history, the drive has collected 108,000 food and personal care items, 4,100 turkeys and more than $75,000 in cash, checks and gift cards.

Here are the scheduled Food Drive dates and times by town: 

• Enfield - Stop & Shop, 54 Hazard Ave., Nov. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Manchester - Stop & Shop, 286 Broad St., Nov. 16, 17, 23 and 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Rockville - Stop & Shop, 50 Windsorville Rd., Nov 23 and 24. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Vernon - Stop & Shop, 10 Pitkin Rd., Nov. 23 and 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• South Windsor  - Stop & Shop, 1739 Ellington Rd., Nov. 16 and 17,  9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

• South Windsor - Geissler's, 965 Sullivan Ave. November 16 and 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Ambulance Service of Manchester, the Manchester Police Department, the South Windsor Police and Fire departments, the Vernon PD and Fire/EMS,  ASM, the Hockanum Valley Community Council and the and Manchester Area Conference of Churches were on hand at the MACC headquarters for a kick-off photo opportunity on Friday. 

The Rockville High School National Honor Society is collecting food this weekend at both the Vernon  and Rockville Stop & Shops. 

HVCC chief David Engelson said his food pantry alone needs more than 600 meal baskets for Thanksgiving and about 900 for Christmas.
