Miss Greater Rockville Katlyn Lewicke reports from the Miss Connecticut competition.
"Day 4... I'll be as brief as I can. We woke up, rehearsed all day, and then got ready for the show. I competed in on-stage question, swimsuit, and evening gown tonight. My question involved my platform, which is child sexual abuse awareness, and the specific issue addressed was how to encourage a victim of sexual abuse to seek help. This was a big moment for me. I am a survivor of sexual abuse, and it took me a long time to face it, but although I am an active volunteer in the fight against CSA and have given several interviews based around the issue, I have never shared my experiences with an auditorium full of people. There was a moment of inward reflection, where I asked myself, do I give a fluffy answer or a real answer? I chose the real one, and I am glad I did.
Swimsuit and evening gown were fun as usual, except I am especially in love with my evening gown, and I feel like a million bucks when I glide down the runway in it. I wish I could wear it every day (though I'm not sure where I would go in it)!
At the end of the night, we came back to our hotel rooms - no McDonald's tonight, thank goodness - and I'm about to pass out. Long, long days, these are. I will probably write about my experience with finals night, which is tomorrow, on Sunday.
Wish me luck!
