Cooling Center Open All Day

Residents can escape the heat at the Senior Center.

A cooling center is being set up all day and into the evening to help residents deal with the excessive heat forecast for today, Mayor Jason McCoy said late last night.

Temperatures are forecast for triple digits with high humidity in reports from several weather services.

The cooling center is being set up at the Senior Center and will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Senior center is on Park Place, on adjacent to the Town Green near Town Hall.

The center will provide and air-conditioned space with access to drinking water.

McCoy said that the cooling center will not be equipped or staffed to deal with, medical care. Anyone with a medical issue will be referred to medical professionals or the 911 system.

Members of the Community Emergency Response Team will be staffing the center. State authorities have noted that the center is open on the 211 system.

Children can stay cool at the water spout at Henry Park. The town has two swimming pools and Valley Falls Park, which has a beach its pond.
