April 22, 2011: Flags Lowered, Egg Hunting and Good Friday Walking.

Annual egg hunt scheduled for Henry Park today.

1. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has ordered the state flag on the Capitol building to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday in honor of Windsor Volunteer Firefighter Robert Watts, who died in the line of duty after responding to an emergency call on Monday.

“I send my deepest condolences, along with those of the entire State of Connecticut, to the family of Robert Watts, his loved ones, and his fellow firefighters,” Malloy said.  “His passion and commitment to serving his country and his community will be remembered.  I ask the people of Connecticut to keep Robert Watts and his family in their thoughts.”

Watts, 50, graduated from Manchester High School and joined the 8th Utilities District Fire Department in Manchester as a junior member in 1977, and as a full member in 1982.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1980 to 1986.  He became a member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department in 2003.

Funeral services for Watts are scheduled for Saturday.

2. The town Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for this morning at Henry Park. The first hunt is scheduled to start at 9:30. Here's what Mayor Jason McCoy has to say about the hunt:

“I am honored to host this event along with Parks and Recreation. On behalf of the Town of Vernon, I would like to thank TicketNetwork and the First New England Federal Credit Union for sponsoring this event and helping to make it possible. For the past 65 years, this event has provided a great opportunity for families within the community to come together and for our children to enjoy a morning of fun, interacting together and hunting for Easter eggs with the Easter Bunny. I look forward to spending the morning celebrating Easter with the residents of Vernon and their children.”

3. The annual Good Friday Walk is scheduled to begin this morning at 7:30 at the Rockville United Methodist Church.

4. Attorney General George Jepsen has criticized the Pabst Brewing Co. for marketing the new Colt 45 Blast high-alcohol drink.

5. The annual Easter sunrise service is scheduled for Sunday at 6 a.m. at the Fox Hill Tower.
