Obituary: Robert K. Smith

Robert K. Smith, 58, of Ellington, beloved husband of Brenda Lee (Lach) Smith, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

He was born on January 22, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio to Wilma Gay (Bolyard) and the late Gilbert Daniel Smith. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Christina Lee Smith age 11, Robert D. Smith (Bobby) and his wife Kaitlyn of Raynham, MA; Paul R .Blackstone and his wife Sherri of Whitman, MA; Mike K. Smith and his wife Gina of San Diego, CA. brothers, Danny Joe Smith of Holland, OH; Phil "A.P."Smith of Kountze, TX; his sister, Tammy Smith of Holland, OH; Seven grandchildren, Sean, Troy, Britney, Bobby, Zachary, Allie, Kambria, and his Aunts, Ruth, Florence, Ruby, Uncle Rusty. In addition to his father he was predeceased by his brother Tom Smith, Uncle Barney and Uncle Melvin.


Bob had served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Navy where he learned the skills working with boilers and engineering that led to his employment as the Director of Operations for the Hartford Marriott. Bob was a selfless man who always put others first, and helped everyone, and was always ready to fix or create something for his family and friends. In addition to raising his own children, Brenda and Bob served as foster parents for countless children throughout the years, which was a shining example of his generous heart and soul.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 27, 11 a.m. at the Ellington Baptist Church, 264 Pinney St., Ellington, with military honors and a reception in the church hall following the service. Burial will be private.

Flowers can be sent directly to the Funeral Home or Donations in Bob's memory may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 300 Research Parkway, Suite 310, Meriden CT 06450.
