(Updated) Route 30 Closed After Car, Motorcycle Collide; Car Catches Fire Down the Road

The road was re-opened at 11 a.m.

Emergency responders have been busy on Route 30.

A car and motorcycle collided on Route 30 on Tuesday morning, forcing authorities to close the road, a police spokesman said.

The crash took place just before 9 a.m. near the intersection of Route 31 - the intersection of East Street and Hartford Turnpike, police said.

Initial reports indicated the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and was injured in the roadway. Life Star helicopter had been called to the scene, a police spokesman said.

Police had no further information on those involved.

A police spokesman said an accident reconstruction team was at the scene at about 9. He added the road should be closed for some time.

Route 30 was re-opened at about 11, a police spokesman said.

Less than a hour later, a car caught fire at the other end of Route 30 - at 51 Hartford Turnpike. A police spokesman said the car was not on the road and was towed from a parking lot after firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
