Lots & More Leaving Vernon With an Interesting Twist
The close-out proceedings include a weekend "tag sale," haggling and all.
It could take up to three months for the Vernon Lots & More to officially close and that leaves plenty of time for a creative liquidation sale.
But it's definitely leaving its location at 48 Windsor Ave.
Signs proclaiming "store closing" and "clearance sale" have been up for about five days. Economic Development Coordinator Shaun Gately said it was a corporate decision by the chain but he is still awaiting some official timetable for the vacancy.
A store worker said no one at the Vernon location was directly involved in the decision and added the reasoning was not quite clear up the corporatye ladder.
All e-mail inquiries on the chain's Web site are directed to the store on Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor, the next closest location. There is also a store on Main Street in Willimantic.
A store worker said the staff was told that the closing will take place over the next 60 to 90 days and the advertised store liquidation sale is ongoing.
A worker said that selected merchandise will be moved to the second floor for a "tag sale" on Saturdays and Sundays and haggling over the marked price is welcome.

I wish there was a date on this article. I missed it the first time, pulled it up under "More on Tolland Patch" and have no idea how current this info. This is not the first time that I've had this happen.

Hi Betty-Lou. The time and date (if the story is more than a day old) should be posted next to the author's name, under the headline.

The story was at the top of the Vernon Patch homepage since 4 a.m. today. Tolland and Ellington-Somers also picked it up.

@ Betty-Lou
This was just posted at 4:00 am this morning January 26, 2012. It is unfortunate to see another business leaving Vernon.

The stores location is at a traffic bottle neck many times of the day. Hours of operation were not entirely user friendly to others that work too. Closing early was not a positive.
