"Hatfields" Running Against McCoy

Letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

Polly Schaefer preferred CL&P's handling over the Town of Vernon's, during storm Irene, according to her statement at the debate on Tuesday.

Polly Schaefer stated that she believed as a council member, it is acceptable to go on vacation as opposed to participate in budget deliberation, as she did this year.

Polly Schaefer and Gordon Paterson had no answer on how they would handle a mid-budget year reduction in municipal funding by the state, which has happened each year since I've been in office.

Neither Schaefer, Paterson nor Krupienski knew that the state pays Vernon PILOT for government property and for hospitals, Payment In Lieu of Taxes, nor did they know that we receive TAR (town aid for Roads), special education funds, which are funded in part for the last two years by ARRA money, which expires this budget cycle, ECS education cost sharing, LoCIP which is local capital improvements, among a few.

Not to mention the municipal conveyance tax is not permanent and is up for vote every couple of years.

Yes, the state plays with these numbers. You cannot rely on grants and bridge funding and we will probably see a change in CDBG funding, ask Congressman Courtney.

Three of the worst possible candidates -  Krupienski, Schaefer and Paterson, for the position of mayor. They are more concerned with pandering to municipal unions and being taken advantage of than learning about the job.

They will destroy the improved municipal credit rating, get the town sued for bad faith firing, raise taxes because they will mismanage the town and squander tax money by giving your tax money away because they won't say NO to anyone.

They want to go back to the days when it was OK that the government did not respond to citizens and made citizens wait.

These three are running a hate Jason McCoy campaign - to the point where the hatred makes them say silly things. The three listed above disagree with me on better schools, on safer streets and lower taxes. They disagree with me on emergency management of the snow that placed our school roofs in imminent danger of collapse, of the handling of storm irene.

Really.

I'm not George Bush and I'm not Ellen Marmer. These guys want to go back to the Ellen Marmer borrow, tax and spend policy of the past.

It's no time for the above listed candidates' hatred of me to to be allowed  to hurt the town's future. Let's make policy from facts not fiction. Let's make management choices on strong understandings of funding. The three above don't have any idea about budgeting and funding.

I'm not running. George Apel is. He has shown his experience, leadership and knowledge at the debate and over the last four years as the chairman of the budget steering committee.

Mayor Jason McCoy

George Apel is the only real candidate running. The two petitioning candidates are a joke and will be lucky if they each get 5% of the vote. Polly Schaffer has a proven record of failure as a Town Council member and pulled the most irresponsible move a Council member could do which was to GO ON VACATION when she had a responsibility to work on the budget.

George Apel is a proven leader in the private sector as a manager at Pratt & Whitney and as a public servant on the Vernon Board of Education. He's the obvious choice for Mayor.

Benjamin Dover - It appears that you are not on the voters' registration list. So the question remains is this your real name? If you are a true believer of what you are stating why not take appropriate credit for your beliefs? Are you registered to vote in Vernon? If not, why would you care about Vernon's politics?

Sara Harnigan - Chris Dehnel the editor of this blog isn't on the registry list either. It's none of your business why I "care about Vernon's politics" so I'm not going to answer any of your questions.

Sarah, the reason why nobody is responding to the bullying comments by "Ben Dover" is because we believe he is the same bully who has made a mess of our town.

oh boo-hoo, your opinion is different from mine so I'm "bullying" that's just plain laughable.

No wranglewoman, I am not Marie Herbst, Ellen Marmer or anyone else who you think made a "mess" because we all know those two did. You believe wrong. What's your real name? Sara Harnigan will want to know.

Ben Dover is boring...sounds like a high paid intern with too much time on his hands. Typical Republican sheeple...

Well Ben you should check your facts. Chris Dehnel is on the candidates walking list, however you are not. It would appear that you are only interested in attempting to discredit worthy opponents and supporting only one. Seems quite one sided to many reading your ridiculous posts. Leave the comments to those with a vested interest in the town. It is my business being a resident AND a registered voter.

If he is Sara, he just registered to vote in Vernon within the past few months. And all you do is launch personal attacks against people who don't agree with you, you're pathetic and I have every right to comment on anything I want no matter what you say. You seethe arrogance and ignorance for someone who didn't even vote in 2005 & 2009. At least your husband managed to get himself to the polls in 2005 & 2009, what's your excuse for not voting since you're trying to throw your "registered voter" status in people's faces. You may be registered Sara but YOU DON'T VOTE so what good is that?

I rarely write a comment and always accept responsibility. Please please point to the" mess in our town", I want to make sure it's cleaned up before I leave office. I will not drop something in a new Mayor's lap. I don't expect our citizens and taxpayers to need to cure or fix anything when I leave. The town is in good Fiscal shape with good services and reformed contracts, pensions and benefits. I ran to clean up a mess, get cooperation, give folks back control. Mayor Jason McCoy.

Well said, Mayor.

I like the can-do attitude and positivity in the face of naysayers.

Jason, there's no "mess" as the wranglelady wrongly claims, she's just grasping at straws trying to fool people and it's not working. Besides no one other than RTC members, candidates, their families and a few political junkies even read this blog anyway. Comments from anonymous posters like the wranglelady are meaningless. For all we know wranglelady is Marie Herbst, Claire Janowski orTom Didio.

Or from a made up name like Ben Dover....

Sarah Harrigan

Ben Dover is the fictional name used in Fletch II. Coincidence? Makes you wonder doesn't it? And for the record was out of town on both occasions but I am at least registered in the the town I live in.

Benjamin Dover

Stansel, for a guy who's most likely going to come in last for the Board of Education seat you're running for which means you won't get elected, you're not doing yourself any favors by being an obnoxious whiner on this blog. Your vote total drops every time you open your mouth here and since I sincerely hope you lose, please keep it up.

And Sara Hanigan, the State Constitution has a provision in it that allows people like you who are "out of town" to vote, it's called an "absentee ballot" have you ever heard of those? If not, you should look into it. Talk to Bernice Dixon about it, she's the Town Clerk in case you didn't know. You like to shoot your mouth off about being registered to vote but if you don't vote, you may as well not be registered to vote and lame excuses like you were "out of town" are simply laughable. What is "Fletch II"? I have no idea what you're talking about

Could happen "Ben"... but I'd still be light years ahead of you on the likeability scale ;) And of course I'm not ashamed to use my real name.

Just a heads up there for ya large mouth Paul, on the Vernon Democrat website which YOU are the "webmaster" for, under your own name you say this:

"Member, Board of Education Curriculem Committee"

One of those six words is spelled wrong (see if you can guess which one) and you are solely responsible for it. Should the citizens of Vernon elect a guy like you to the Board of EDUCATION who can't spell? Absolutely NOT!

By the way, does Aetna think it's okay for you to play your political, internet games on company time? I'd suggest you refrain from surfing the net on the company dime using their equipment. They're paying you to DO YOUR JOB, not play around on the computer when you should be working so get back to work.

Down Boys! Keep this up and you both are going to have to stay in for recess tomorrow!

Let's see... he's threatened my job, followed me on Facebook, is afraid to use his real name... sounds like I have a celebrity stalker! Wow, I feel important now. Next thing you know he's going to say he knows where I live (which is of course public information, unlike his fake name). Keep making threats Ben. Go for it. I'll be happy to talk to the police.

Mark Kalina

I agree with Christy Vale. Children, we are going to put dunce hats on Mr. Dover and Mr. Stansel and send them to the corner... Either that or we rent a "squared circle" and have a boxing match to resolve their differences in three rounds... LOL
