First Review of the Budget Set for Saturday.

Council scheduled to begin deliberations at 9 a.m. and public forum is included on the agenda.


The first Town Council budget meeting of the season is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at Town Hall.

A pubic forum is included on the agenda.

Mayor Jason McCoy and Finance Officer James Luddecke will report on the revenue side of the $79.3 million budget proposal for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

The Town Council is scheduled review the following accounts:

• Recreation administration.

• Recreation - public celebration.

• Recreation - programs account.

• Youth Services Bureau.

• Social Services.

• Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut.

• Hockanum Valley Community Council.

• Child Guidance Clinic.

• Exchange Club - prevention of child abuse.

• Hackanum Industries.

• MARC Inc.

• Shelter services.

• Connecticut legal Services.

• Interval House.

• YMCA Sexual Assault Services.

• Hockanum Valley School Readiness.

• Data processing.

• Police.

• Crossing guards.

• Traffic Authority.

• Emergency management.

• Firefighting and administration.

• Ambulance.

The Town Council is reviewing the $79,352,355 bottom line submitted by McCoy this week.

It is an increase of $630,896, or .8 percent over the current fiscal year's budget.  If approved by the council without changes, the budget would drop the current tax rate of 30.02 mills to 29.96 mills.
